INFORMATION AND ACTIVITIES
SSA Scholarships

The Sarasota Sportsmens A ssociation gives away up to five local area scholarships each year. Recipients are chosen from submissions received for the current school year with a final receipt date of the end of March of that particular year. The SSA Scholarship committee judges scholarship recipients based on scholastic merit, community involvement, and a brief essay on the candidate's involvment in the outdoors.

Funding for these scholarships is provided largely by the funds raised during our spring and fall banquets. To date, we've given away over $20,000 in scholarships to local youth. If you would like to get involved in the scholarship committee, please contact a committee member for more information. If you are a potential candidate for the current calendar year, please visit our our scholarship page to download an application by clicking here: SCHOLARSHIP PAGE
SSA Artificial Reef

The Sarasota Sportsmens Association in conjuntion with the Sarasota Bay Estuary Program worked together to launch a "Reef Ball" off of the Venice Inlet. Artificial reefs have been constructed in Sarasota County to increase and enhance recreational fishing and scuba diving area as well as to create and restore marine habitat lost to coastal development. Remember to use proper catch and release fishing practices.

The artificial reef has a plaque designating it as the Sarasota Sportsmens Association reef and can be found at Latitude North 27 Degrees 02.674' and Latitude West 82 Degrees 38.791'.
Community Inolvement

The Sarasota Sportsmens Association gets involved in local community efforts. A good example of our proactive stance was during Hurricane Charely when a team of committee members committed time, resources and funds to clean up efforts in Arcadia.

Annually, SSA gets involved in local community and environment projects. If you or your organization has a local project and is interested in volunteer efforts or funding from the Association, please contact a committee member to find out how we can get involved.
